Lunch and Learn sessions connect students with faculty

Randolph students have a new opportunity to learn from professors in an informal setting this semester.

Each Monday, the Center for Student Research sponsors a “Lunch and Learn” that invites students to dine with professors for informal discussions about one professor’s research and creative work.

The program was organized to help students become more engaged academically outside the classroom and in the world, said Peter Sheldon, a physics professor and director of the Center for Student Research.

“Randolph faculty members are involved in a huge variety of research and creative endeavors, including computer science, 艺术 history, and musical composition, and more” Sheldon said. “Lunch and Learn is an opportunity for students to find out about these topics outside the setting of an academic class—and perhaps from a professor outside their own interests. We hope the discussions help students think about ways they can apply their own creativity and critical thinking outside of the classroom.”

Sheldon added that he hopes the lunch meetings will give students ideas of projects they can work on through the Summer Research Program, or with the Randolph Innovative Student Experience grants.

Each Lunch and Learn meeting st艺术s at 12:50 p.m. and continues to 1:20 p.m. The discussions happen at a reserved table in Cheatham Dining Hall.
